NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with IEC 60947-1 : 2020 ‘Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear: Part 1 General rules’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was first published as IS 13947 (Part 1) : 1993 ‘Specification for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear: Part 1 General rules’, which was identical to IEC 60947-1 : 1988 subsequently superseded by IS/IEC 60947-1 : 2004. First revision was then undertaken in 2012 which was identical to IEC 60947 1 : 2007. This revision has now been undertaken to align this standard with the latest international practices.
