NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 5/Sec 1) (First Revision) which is identical with IEC 60947-5-2 : 2019 ‘Lowvoltage switchgear and controlgear - Part 5-2: Control circuit devices and switching elements - Proximity switches’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was first published as IS 13947 (Part 5/Sec 2) : 2004 ‘Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear - Specification: Part 5 Control circuit devices and switching elements, Section 2 Proximity switches’ based on IEC 60947-5-2 : 1999. In 2012, the committee then decided to adopt the revised IEC Standard in a single number as IS/IEC 60947-5-2 : 2007 in order to harmonize it with the latest developments that have taken place at international level. This revision has now been undertaken to align this standard with the latest international practices.
