This Indian Standard (Part 5/Sec 5) which is identical with IEC 60947-5-5 : 2016 ‘Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear — Part 5-5: Control circuit devices and switching elements — Electrical emergency stop device with mechanical latching function’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which is a consolidated version consisting of the IEC 60947-5-5 : 1997 with its amendment 1 (2005) and amendment 2 (2016) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This Indian Standard is published in five parts. The other parts/sections in this series are:

Part 1 General rules

Part 2 Circuit-breakers

Part 3 Switches, disconnectors, switch-disconnectors and fuse combination units

Part 4 Contactors and motor-starters

The text of the IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviation. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as the decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as a decimal marker.
