NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 106) (First Revision) which is identical with IEC 62271-106 : 2021 ‘Highvoltage switchgear and controlgear - Part 106: Alternating current contactors, contactor-based controllers and motor-starters’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the High Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

IS/IEC 60470 : 2000 earlier covered requirements for ‘High-voltage alternating current contactors and contactor-based motor-starters’. In the year 2018, IS/IEC 60470 was superseded by IS/IEC 62271-1 06 : 2011. This revision has now been undertaken to align this standard with the latest international practices.
