This Indian Standard which is identical with IEC/TR 60788 : 2004 ‘Medical electrical equipment - Glossary of defined terms’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Electromedical Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.

This standard was first published as IS 13807 : 1994 ‘Medical radiology - Terminology’ by adopting IEC 60788 : 1984. This standard will, therefore, supersedes IS 13807 : 1994 and after the publication of this standard IS 13807 : 1994 shall be treated as withdrawn.

This standard provide an actual mirror of all the defined terms used in the standards under the scope of Medical Electrical Equipment.

The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
