NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 12891-1 : 2015 ‘Retrieval and analysis of surgical implants - Part 1: Retrieval and handling’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of Orthopaedic Instruments Implant and Accessories Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.

This Indian Standard is published in two parts. Other parts in this series are:

Part 2 Analysis of retrieved surgical implants

This standard supersedes IS 11088 : 1984 ‘Guide for retrieval and analysis of metallic orthopaedic implants’.

The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in the Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
