NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) which is identical with ISO 13261-2 : 1998 ‘Sound power rating of airconditioning and air-source heat pump equipment - Part 2: Non-ducted indoor equipment’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Sectional Committee and approval of the Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

This standard specifies methods for the determination of sound power ratings of air-conditioning and air-source heat pump equipment to be used indoors. This standard is also applicable to the sound power rating of the indoor sections of non-ducted, factory-made, residential, commercial and industrial air-conditioning and air-source heat pump equipment, which are electrically driven with mechanicalcompression including free-delivery heat pumps, packaged-terminal air-conditioners and water-source heat pumps. This standard includes both an octave-band sound power level rating and a singlenumber A-weighted overall sound power level rating.

This standard has two parts under general title ‘Sound power rating of air-conditioning and air-source heat pump equipment’. Other part in this standard is: Part 1 Non-ducted outdoor equipment

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
