NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 4306-2 : 2012 ‘Cranes - Vocabulary - Part 2 : Mobile cranes’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Cranes, Lifting Chains and its Related Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1992 and subsequently revised in 1994. First revision was based on ISO 4306-2 : 1983 ‘Cranes - Vocabulary - Part 2: Mobile cranes. The second revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 4306-2 : 2012.

The major changes in this revision are as follows:

a) New terms and definitions, 1.2 to 1.5, have been added;

b) Definition 5.2 (loader crane) has been substantially modified;

c) “Jib” has been changed to “boom” in the terms and definitions in Clauses 3 and 4 and their related figures; and

d) The wording of some definitions has been changed for clarity of expression.

This Indian Standard is published in three parts. Other parts in this series are:

Part 1 General

Part 3 Tower cranes

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
