IS/ISO 5364 : 2008 Anaesthetic and Respiratory Equipment — Oropharyngeal Airways
Reaffirmed 2019
[Superseding IS 11807 : 1986]
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 5364 : 2008 ‘Anaesthetic and respiratory equipment - Oropharyngeal airways’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Anaesthetic, Resuscitation and Allied Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.
This standard specifies dimensions and other requirements for oropharyngeal airways. Airway size is designated by length, which is important when selecting an oropharyngeal airway to hold forward the base of the tongue to prevent obstruction of the airway by the soft tissues.
This standard supersedes IS 11807 : 1986 ‘Oropharyngeal airways-Specification (first revision)’ and after the publication of this standard IS 11807 : 1986 shall be treated as withdrawn.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
