Reaffirmed 2020
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 55000 : 2014 ‘Asset management - Overview, principles and terminology’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Resource Management Sectional Committee and approval of the Management and Systems Division Council.
Asset management standard is published in ISO 55000 series and the other standards in this series are:
— ISO 55001 : 2014 Asset management - Management systems - Requirements
— ISO 55002 : 2014 Asset management - Management systems - Guidelines for the application of ISO 55001
This standard provides an overview of asset management and asset management systems (that is, management systems for the management of assets). It also provides the context for other standards published in this series. International cooperation in the preparation of these standards has identified common practices that can be applied to the broadest range of assets, in the broadest range of organizations, across the broadest range of cultures.
This standard enables an organization to achieve its objectives through the effective and efficient management of its assets. The application of an asset management system provides assurance that those objectives can be achieved consistently and sustainably over time.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
