NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) which is identical with ISO 6194-2 : 2009 ‘Rotary shaft lip-type seals incorporating elastomeric sealing elements - Part 2 : Vocabulary’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Gasket and Packing Sectional Committee and approval of the Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

The standard supersedes IS 5129 (Part 2) : 2003/ISO 6194-2 : 1991 ‘Rotary shaft lip type oil seal

Part 2 : Vocabulary (Third revision)’. Under the general title ‘Rotary shaft lip-type seals incorporating thermoplastic sealing elements’, the standard is in five parts. Other parts are as follows:

Part 1 Nominal dimensions and tolerances

Part 3 Storage, handling and installation

Part 4 Performance test procedures

Part 5 Identification of visual imperfections

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
