NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 6789-1 : 2017 ‘Assembly tools for screws and nuts - Hand torque tools - Part 1: Requirements and methods for design conformance testing and quality conformance testing: minimum requirements for declaration of conformance’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards after the draft finalized by Hand Tools Sectional Committee had been approved by the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was published as IS 7268 : 1974 'Click-type torque wrenches'. In 2008, IS/ISO 6789 : 2003 superseded IS 7268 : 1974 and IS 7145 : 1973 'Technical supply conditions for torque wrenches'. In 2018, IS/ISO 6789 : 2003 was further superseded by IS 16906 : 2018 to incorporate comments received from stakeholders. Now, the committee responsible for the formulation of this standard decided to adopt ISO 6789-1 : 2017.
