NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 80000-1 : 2022 ‘Quantities and units — Part 1: General’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Basic Standards Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published as IS 1890 (Part 0) : 1983 ‘Quantities and units (Part 0) General principles’ and was subsequently revised in 1995. IS/ISO 80000-1 : 2009 superseded IS 1890 (Part 0) : 1995 and IS 10005 : 1994 ‘SI units and recommendations for the use of their multiples and of certain other units (second revision).’ The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 80000-1.
