NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 8178-1 : 2020 ‘Reciprocating internal combustion engines – Exhaust emission measurement – Part 1: Test bed measurement systems of gaseous and particulate emissions’, issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Automotive Prime Movers, Transmission Systems and Internal Combustion Engines Sectional Committee and approval of the Transport Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 2018. This first revision has been undertaken to harmonize it with ISO 8178- 1 : 2020. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
a) Addition of provision to use alternative systems for ammonia analysis;
b) Improvement of weighing chamber and analytical balance specifications;
c) Insertion of general section on measurement instruments;
d) Revision of particle number measurement system requirements;
e) Addition concentration and expiration date for analytical gases;
f) Revision of the annex on carbon flow check; and
g) Addition of the 1980 international gravity formula.
