NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 4) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 8178-4 : 2020 ‘Reciprocating internal combustion engines - Exhaust emission measurement - Part 4: Steady-state and transient test cycles for different engine applications’ issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Automotive Prime Movers, Transmission Systems and Internal Combustion Engines Sectional Committee and approval of the Transport Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first published in 2011 and revised in 2017. This second revision has been undertaken to harmonize it with ISO 8178-4 : 2020. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:

a)Amendment of the information regarding the determination of the background concentration;

b)Revision of particle number emission evaluation; and

c)Addition of electrical equipment in the auxiliary table.
