NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 7) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 8178-7 : 2015 ‘Reciprocating internal combustion engine — Exhaust emission measurement — Part 7: Engine family determination’, issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Automotive Prime Movers, Transmission Systems and Internal Combustion Engines Sectional Committee and approval of the Transport Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 2012 which was identical with ISO 8178-7 : 1996. This The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with ISO 8178-7 : 2015.

This Indian Standard is published in several parts. The other parts in this series are:

Part 1 Test bed measurement systems of gaseous and particulate emission

Part 3 Definition and method of measurement of exhaust gas smoke under steady-state conditions

Part 4 Steady-state test cycles for different engine applications

Part 8 Engine group determination

Part 9 Test cycles and procedures for test bed measurement of exhaust gas smoke from compression ignition engines operating under transient conditions

The text of the ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standard. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
