This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identicalwith ISO 8573-1 : 2001 'Compressed air - Part 1: Contaminants and purity classes' issued by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of IndianStandards on recommendation of theCompressors.Blowersand Exhausters Sectional Committeeand approval of the MechanicalEngineeringDivision Council.

ThisstandardsupersedesIS 14642 (Part 1) : 1999 'Compressedair for generaluse: Part 1 Contaminantand quality classes' which was technically equivalentto ISO 8573-1 : 1996,

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularlydrawnto the following:
