IS/ISO 8573 : Part 2 : 2018 Compressed Air - Contaminant Measurement Part 2 Oil Aerosol Content
Revised Standard from Last Update.
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 2) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 8573-2 : 2018 ‘Compressed air - Contaminant measurement - Part 2 : Oil aerosol content’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Industrial Gases Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.
Compressed gases have diversified fields of application. Presence of impurities like oil aerosols in compressed gases limits their application in sensitive and critical areas like medical and electronic applications. Hence, precise estimation of oil aerosol in compressed gases helps in ensuring quality and its suitability for the intended application.
This standard specifies test methods for the sampling and quantitative analysis of liquid oil and oil aerosols that can typically be present in compressed air. Two different methods are described, Method A and Method B. Method B is subdivided into two parts to clearly distinguish between procedures for obtaining the quantity of oil for analysis. Method A describes an oil collection technique using inline coalescing filters whereas Method B utilizes sampling discs in a holder from which the collected oil is extracted with a solvent and analysed by infrared spectrometry or gas chromatography with flame ionization detector. This standard was originally published in 1999 as IS 14642 (Part 2), which was identical with ISO 8573-2 : 1996. Subsequent to the revision of ISO 8573-2 in 2007, the committee decided to adopt ISO 8573-2 : 2007 under single numbering system to keeppace with the latest international practices. This revision of the standard has been undertaken to align it with ISO 8573-2 : 2018.
This revision of the standard supersedes IS/ISO 8573-2 : 2007.
This standard has been issued in several parts. Other parts of this standard are:
Part 1 Contaminants and purity classes
Part 3 Test methods for measurement of humidity
Part 4 Test methods for solid particle content
Part 5 Test methods for Oil Vapour and Organic Solvent Content
Part 6 Test Methods for Gaseous Contaminant Content
Part 7 Test Method for Viable Microbiological Contaminant Content
Part 8 Test Methods for Solid Particle Content by Mass Concentration
Part 9 Test Methods for Liquid Water Content
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the word ‘International Standard’ appears referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
