NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 8601-1 : 2019 ‘Date and time - Representations for information interchange - Part 1: Basic rules’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Documentation and Information Sectional Committee and approval of the Management and Systems Division Council.
This standard was previously adopted as IS 7900 which was adoption of ISO 8601 : 2004. Subsequent to publication of ISO 8601-1 and ISO 8601-2 into two parts, which have been technically modified, IS 7900 stand cancels and this standard replaces IS 7900 : 2007 /ISO 8601 : 2004.
This Indian Standard is published in two parts. The other part in this series is:
Part 2 Extensions
The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following: a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
