NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 9177-1 : 2016 ‘Mechanical pencils for technical drawings - Part 1: Classification, dimensions, performance requirements and testing’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Educational Instruments and Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1989 and subsequently revised in 2011. First revision of this standard was identical with ISO 9177-1 : 2011. The second revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 9177-1 : 2016. This standard specifies classification, dimensions, performance requirements and testing for hand-held mechanical pencils used for technical drawings.
