NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 20/Sec 2) which is identical with ISO/IEC 80079-20-2 : 2016 ‘Explosive atmospheres — Part 20-2: Material characteristics — Combustible dusts test methods’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), published as a double logo standard; was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Electrical Apparatus for Explosive Atmospheres Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard supersedes IS/IEC 61241-2-1 : 1994 ‘Electrical apparatus for use in the presence of combustible dust : Part 2 Test methods, Section 1 Methods for determining the minimum ignition temperatures’ and IS/IEC 61241-2-3 : 1994 ‘Electrical apparatus for use in the presence of combustible dust : Part 2 Test methods, Section 3 Method for determining minimum ignition energy of dust/air mixtures’; since the base IEC is withdrawn and replaced by ISO/IEC 80079-20-2 : 2016.

The text of ISO/IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
