SP 6 : Part 6 : 1972 Handbook for structural engineers - Application of plastic theory in design of steel structures

UDC 624.014.2 : 624.04 CED 7

1 Scope

1.1 It is the purpose of this handbook to present thefundamental concepts involved in plastic design and to justify itsapplication to structural steel frames. The methods of plasticanalysis will be described together with the design procedures thathave so far been developed. Secondary design considerations arealso included.

1.2 Specific application may be made to statically loaded framesof structural steel to continuous beams, to single-storeyedindustrial frames and to such other structures whose condition ofloading and geometry are consistent with the assumptions involvedin the theory, Numerous applications will undoubtedly be made toother types of structures such as rings and arches, but for thetime being the scope of application is limited to the indicatedstructural types.
