IS/ISO 10218 : Part 1 : 2025 Robotics - Safety Requirements - Part 1 Industrial Robots
[Superseding IS 14530 (Part 1) & (Part 2) : 2019]
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical to ISO 10218-1 : 2025 'Robotics - Safety requirements - Part 1 Industrial robots' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Industrial Automation Systems and Robotics Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.
The Indian Standards on safety requirements for industrial robots and systems was first published in 1998 and subsequently revised in 2019 as IS 14530 (Part 1) and IS 14530 (Part 2). Considering the widespread recognition of the ISO 10218 series, it has been decided to supersede the IS 14530 series with the IS/ISO 10218 series.
This series of Indian Standards has been developed to address the specific hazards associated with the use of robotics in industrial environments. IS/ISO 10218-1 focuses on industrial robots as incomplete machines, while IS/ISO 10218-2 covers the integration of robots into complete machines, such as systems, applications, and cells.
This standard has been published in two parts. The other part in this series are:
Part 2 Industrial robot applications and robot cells
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
